International Volunteer Program 2025 Hits the Trail
In July 2025, 14 volunteers – 7 international and 7 Armenian – gathered in Dilijan’s forested mountains for the Transcaucasian Trail’s International Volunteer Program (IVP). This program holds special significance: both the TCT in Armenia and Trails for Change were born from the first IVP back in 2017, and 2025 marked a symbolic return to where it all began.

The week-long program focused on maintaining the Gosh–Khachardzan route, near the historic Goshavank Monastery – a scenic, well-loved section of the trail. Over five days, the team cleared overgrown vegetation, repaired drainage systems, and reinforced trail tread. For some, it was their first trailwork experience; for others, a continuation of their commitment to sustainable outdoor recreation. By the end, almost 2 km of trail was maintained and the safety was enhanced.

What made this IVP unique was the spirit of collaboration. Participants from diverse countries and backgrounds lived, worked, and shared experiences together in a remote campsite. Through shared labor and conversation, friendships formed, differences faded, and a sense of community grew.
This year’s IVP was also a milestone: the return of the international program to Armenia after eight years. Beyond trailwork, it was a reminder that trailbuilding is about people, stewardship, and storytelling. For participants, it offered an authentic way to connect with Armenia’s landscapes and traditions – not as tourists, but as contributors.
While the camp has ended, its impact endures, and more adventures await in 2026. Stay tuned for future programs and ways to get involved.
