Crew Maintenance Skills Development Project 2025
The Crew Maintenance Skills Development Project, held in March and April across Syunik and Tavush, brought together 30 crew members from four regions for hands-on learning in trail maintenance.

The goal? Empower regional crews with the knowledge and tools to maintain and improve Armenia’s trails. That means everything from understanding trail slopes and corridor clearing to spotting drainage issues and learning how to handle tools like loppers, chainsaws, and yes—even weedwhackers. They were intensive learning sessions - both indoor and out in the wild - designed to sharpen the technical skills of regional trail crews.

Here’s a peek at what participants learned:
Trail fundamentals and gradient standards
Tool maintenance & safe usage
Identifying and fixing common issues like erosion, water pooling
Trail marking with official Tourism Committee standards
Building and maintaining steps, bridges, retaining walls

By the end of the week, participants had gained practical knowledge in safety, infrastructure repair, signage, and more.
This project was made possible thanks to the efforts of Hike Armenia and Trails For Change NGO, with support from local communities and field professionals.
