Youth For Change Conservation Corps

Our 4th Youth for Change program in 2023 has been completed! An outdoor educational camp was set up in Dilijan National Park in the Tavush region of Armenia.

Eleven young people from diverse regions of Armenia engaged in the educational camp. They familiarized themselves with trail building, eco-tourism, and first aid and also actively contributed to rebuilding and maintaining trails within Dilijan National Park.

Participants restored an ancient trail connecting Haghartsin Monastery to the Hidden Waterfall Trail during this session. This allows hikers to avoid the busy road and enjoy nice views of the Monastery and surrounding mountains. We constructed the Hidden Waterfall Trail in 2018 and it has become one of our most popular trails!

Participants also performed maintenance work on the Hidden Waterfall Trail and an ancient soon-to-be-opened trail below the Monastery. There are more ancient trails in this area on our wish list for future restoration work!

Participants also had training on adventure tourism, climate change, Forest management, and Global problems arising from single-use plastics.

We are happy to report that four participants from this session have joined our technical trail crew and are now employees of Trails For Change!

Our next and final session for 2023 will be in early October in the Lore Region. Trails For Change NGO implemented this project with funding and support from the U.S. Forest Service.
